Field Check Up Series

As Channel Seedsmen, we do not believe that our obligation is over after we deliver seed in the spring.  We believe that we have a responsibility to offer support to farmers who grow our seed through the entire growing season.  One of the ways that we fulfill this responsibility is by scouting at each growth stage to make sure that the seeds we sell are on track for success.

Seedling Stage

  • Evaluate field conditions and planting depth
  • Conduct stand counts
  • Note any insect issues

Vegetative Stage

  • Look for nutrient deficiencies
  • Check for the presence of any foliar diseases
  • Inspect for weeds
  • Note any insect issues

Reproductive Stage

  • Assess pollination
  • Complete weed evaluation
  • Check root mass and compare roots
  • Appraise disease pressure
  • If needed, recommend fungicides and coordinate fungicide application

Maturity Stage

  • Estimate yields
  • Look for late-season nutrient deficiencies
  • Develop harvest schedule
  • Evaluate harvest goals
